How to turn a YouTube video into a script (the right way)

Watching a great video and writing something better is how most creators learn. The key is to use it as research, not to copy it. This guide shows a clean way to do that.

Start from what the video does well

Open the video and write down its structure: the hook, the main points, where it slows down and what it leaves out. Those gaps are your opportunity.

Change the angle, not just the words

Rewording another creator's script is still copying their ideas and can break YouTube's rules on reused content. Pick a different angle, add facts the video missed, or tell the story from another point of view.

Use a tool to speed up the first draft

Paste a YouTube link into Sweezylab and it reads the video, suggests three titles with a score so you can pick the strongest, and writes a full script in sections from 5 to 60 minutes. Treat that as a first draft: you still decide the angle, check the facts and make it sound like you.

Check every fact

AI writing can sound confident and still be wrong. Check names, dates and numbers against a source before you record anything.

Then add the voiceover

Once the script reads well out loud, add a voiceover and pictures. See our guide to making a faceless video, or the step-by-step page on how Sweezylab works.

Try it on your own video
